A boundary survey is a process carried out to determine property lines and define true property corners of a parcel of land described in a deed. It also indicates the extent of any easements or encroachments and may show the limitations imposed on the property by state or local regulations.
FEMA has developed a standardized Elevation Certificate form that is used to gather elevation data for the purpose of accurately assessing flood risks to structures located in Flood Hazard Zones
Construction surveying or building surveying is to stake out reference points and markers that will guide the construction of new structures such as roads or buildings. Many times architects or engineers will design and hire a surveyor to place the design in the field.
A Topographic Survey is a survey that gathers data about the elevation of points on a piece of land and presents them as contour lines on a plot. The purpose of a topographic survey is to collect survey data about the natural and man-made features of the land, as well as its elevations.
A Loan Survey is often required when you purchase a home. This is how the lender will verify that the property they're lending you money to purchase is located within the bounds of the property. Lenders often require surveys be completed throughout the construction process and upon completion.
Subdivision Survey (commonly referred to as subdivision platting) is the process of splitting a tract of land into smaller parcels. This shows monumentation and survey data on a map in conformance with local subdivision ordinance.
Butler Associates was founded in 1987 by Robert Barry Butler. Barry retired from ownership in January of 2019 after 31 years of business. Joshua Edwards an employee purchased the company and now operates the business as Butler Associates Land Surveying, PLLC. Barry is still an employee and a vital part of the company on a day to day basis.
Barry began surveying in 1977 working for Sam T. Marlowe in Columbus NC. Barry worked in the upstate of South Carolina and Western North Carolina for several years before pursuing his license. In January of 1987 Barry was licensed as a Registered Land Surveyor in the state of North Carolina and in June of 1988 received his South Carolina License.
Joshua Edwards began working with Barry just out of high school in 2007 as a part time summer employee. Josh began college shortly after at the University of North Carolina at Asheville studying Biology with plans of becoming a veterinarian. After his first year at UNCA Josh changed his mind. Unsure of what he wanted to study Josh began taking classes at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. They offered an Associate’s degree in Surveying Technology in which he enrolled. Josh Graduated from the program in 2009 and transferred to North Carolina Agricultural and State University to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering. In 2011 Josh graduated from NC A&T and immediately took the State and National Land Surveying Intern Exams. As a SI. (Surveying Intern). Josh began work for another survey company in the Asheville area. In April of 2013 a position came available at Butler Associates and Josh made the move back to Tryon. In late 2013 Josh had met the required work experience requirements for North Carolina and in April of 2014 passed the professional examinations for licensure. Since that time Josh and Barry have worked together on a day to day basis here in the Carolina's.
